The automobile industry is all set to witness the dawn of a
new era. It’s not petrol, diesel or any other fuel but its electricity that has
initiated the evolution in the two wheeler industry in India.
With the rising
cost of fuel at international and national stages, increasing levels of
pollution and congestion in transport systems especially in urban areas, higher
running and maintenance cost of vehicles, the electrically charged automobiles
have very bright future in the area of personal transportation.
India’s two-wheeler industry is the largest in the world,
selling more than 20 million vehicles every year. Despite the second wave of
Covid-19, in the pandemic-impacted year, data shows that in FY 2020, EV sales
for two-wheelers in India increased by 21 percent and have projected an
ambitious target of achieving 100 percent electrification by 2030.
